My learnings....
Since the 1st term is coming to an inglorious close its time to reflect on whether the learnings were worth the 3 lakh 71 thousands we paid for this term...
Well...After much head scratching, I could zero in on only 4 things that I learnt in the last two months and half.. Here they are..
First, yes.. you guessed it right :-)... the famous, now almost-a-zen... 'Profit and cash are different'..
Second... yes..again you are correct :-)... made popular by Durgesh... 'Marks and knowledge are as different as profit and cash'..
Third... it may well work in the US..but the power of positive thinking (as illustrated in the documentary 'The Secret') does not always work at XL... and certainly not with GMP students, specially in QTMD and MANAC exams :-(
Fourth.. its a realisation though... Getting a job and getting good marks in exams are as different as profit and cash, subject to Note No. 1
Note 1: Refer to clause 16 ('Qualifying Standards') of Student Manual
I wish the fourth realisation will become crystal clear in the coming terms :-)
Ciao...

Dinner table small talks
Our dinning hall is one of the best places at XLRI.
Ofcourse I am not talking about the food ...
Dinning hall is a place where ideas are exchanged, views are presented and opinions are formed. And sometimes you get to hear some interesting narrations ;-)...
Today my luck favored me so that I could be at the right table at the right time...
The discussion was already on.. the topic that was being discussed immediately caught my attention.. It was on dreams and the interpretation of it... my table mates were sharing their experiences and it was quite fascinating.. I thanked myself that I chose the right table.. today it would not be another drab conversion and usual cribbing on assignments, and marks in mid-term exams..
But the best was yet to come..
One of my table mates was sharing his experience... it went like this (the conversation)
'One night even I also had a dream... it was like one night I came down to the ground floor to find out that my bike was missing'
'Oh no.. you must have felt very bad'
'Yea.. but then I realised in my dream that I was actually dreaming.. infact I realized that I even did not bring my bike at XL... But even though it was only a dream I was curious about the missing bike.. So I kept on dreaming'
'Ohh..really.. could you do that?? I mean, how one can dream when he knows he is dreaming?'
'I know.. but my curiosity got better of me.. so I let my dream to continue.. I felt bad that I had to go to police station to lodge complain and all that.. God knows how the police here at Jsr would behave with me!!'
'Did you find your bike.. I mean in your dream'
'No man.. before I could even go to the police station I had to get up...it was already late in the morning.. God knows what happened to my bike!!!'
My friend signed off in a pensive mood and I kept wondering...
Life is so beautiful :-P

Cat is out of the bag
Finally the results of Placement committee elections are out. Some would classify them surprising and some will call them shocking (no names) but at the end of the day no body could have predicted all the names of winning team. The GMP batch voted using the conventional ballot paper (We draw more inspiration from US elections than the Indian election). There were no attempts to capture booth or of luring voters with enticements. In case if there would ever arise a need for re elections, the batch will get EVMs and ISO certification for the election process.
Few take away of this election-
1. People trusted the election committee and they did a fabulous job. If we had more volunteers and less people to just comment we can organise more batch events .So first cheers are for Aditya, Milind, Pranit, Sachin, Sandeep, Sunil and Swastayan
2. Despite rumors’ that the verdict will be fragmented, the winning team has received large no of votes which goes on to prove when it comes to fair selection we can vote across the barriers of class and sectors.
3. Batch has voted for people whom they found sincere, approachable and amicable (Not that the others who lost out did not have these qualities)
4. Finally what it boils down to be is that batch wants action and so those victorious can rejoice tonight but they better get down to the norming stage of group formation at the earliest.
5. All the nominees (including me) had assured to help and support the place com and we for once can try and take a lead on building up on ideas we gave.
P.S I have deliberately not mentioned the name of winners – you will have enough chance to hog the lime light.
